Personal Reading Profile

I love to read, I have ever since I was little. My goal for 2017 is to read 75 books, last year I read 100, but I've got a lot on my plate this year so I set a lower goal this year (Although last year my goal was 75, so we'll see what happens!) I will try reading anything that gets recommended to me, but I tend to know what I will or won't like by reading the summary of a book. My favorite genres are young adult, classic literature, fantasy, sci-fi, graphic novels and nonfiction. My least favorite genres are horror, suspense, and romance novels. I'm currently reading three books Saga Volume 3 by Brian K. Vaughan, Kindred Spirits by Rainbow Rowell and the The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck: How to Stop Spending Time You Don't Have with People You Don't Like Doing Things You Don't Want to Do by Sarah Knight. I recently (within the last year) started a book club with fellow library workers at the library system where I work. I am often on Amazon buying books or I still seek out the few book stores that remain in my area. I plan to create a little library of my own one day.

Great Graphic Novels I read in 2016
1. Alias Omnibus by Brian Michael Bendis
2. Hawkeye by Matt Fraction

  1. Preacher is the best! Did you watch the AMC series? If you did, I'm curious to hear your thoughts since it was pretty different from the comics.

  2. Laura-I did watch the AMC series, it was VERY different from the comic, but I still really enjoyed it! I love the three main actors/characters in the show! I thought they did a great job! What did you think of the show?

  3. We have a lot of things in common! I am a big Disney fan, and I love Doctor Who, Harry Potter, LOTR, Star Wars, Sherlock, and all things nerdy!
Have you read the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer or Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige?

    1. Awesome! I love meeting fellow nerds! :)

Jenny - I have read Cinder, and I loved it! I haven't gone any further into the series yet though. I will eventually hopefully! I have not read Dorothy Must Die, but it was recently recommended to me, so I'll have to try it out!

  5. Hi Kate! Including some of the graphic novels you read from this past year was a great idea. I enjoy graphic novels as well but wasn't sure if I should add them to my reading profile for this class. I completely agree that Wonder by R.J. Palacio is very good-- more people should read this book!

  6. Kate, I am impressed with your goal to read 75 books this year. I will be happy if I can squeeze in 50 titles. I found it interesting when you stated that you tend to know if you would like a book by reading the summary. Have you ever read a book that you did not think you would like and you actually enjoyed it? I am currently reading The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion and I am pleasantly surprised with the story. The book was recommended to me and I did not find the summary to be appealing so I was reluctant to pick it up. I am now happy I went out of my comfort zone and listened to someone else's advice.

    1. Cindy - I'm sure that has happened to me before, I just can't think of any examples. I read Quiet by Susan Cain and I didn't think I would like it as much as I did, so I guess that is one example! I think you are hinting to me to be more open minded and try new things...people keep telling me that lately! I guess I should start doing something about that! Can I ask for a book recommendation?
